Sometimes people will look at skydivers, and wonder why in

the world they would do a sport that takes them so close to

death. After all, plunging to the earth at a high rate of

speed seems like a dangerous sport. So here are some

reasons why people like to skydive.

1. It’s fun

Those who have skydived have said how much fun it can be.

They go up again and again, and there’s nothing like it in

the world.

2. It’s exhilarating

There’s a rush and a thrill to feel yourself falling to the

earth. There’s also something special about that sensation

of flying, since for many years people have wanted to be

able to fly like the birds. Skydiving is one of the few

ways that you can feel as if you are flying, without being

in an airplane or a helicopter.

3. It’s safe

Although most people think that it is a dangerous sport,

with the right training and preparation it’s just as safe

as any other sport. It’s only dangerous when people take

unnecessary risks and don’t follow the proper procedures.

The thing to remember is that skydiving is just like

anything else. When people do it properly, it’s something

that can be very enjoyable. But when people don’t show a

respect for the sport and for the procedures that are laid

out, that is when people get injured and give skydiving a

bad reputation.

Training methods for skydiving

When you are going to get your certification in skydiving,

there are three different ways that you will be trained.

Each step follows the other, and all are important if you

are wanting to get your certification.

1. Tandem jump

a. Ground training lasts for about 30 minutes, but once the

ground training is over, you will be jumping out of an

airplane. This sounds scary, but remember that you are

going to be strapped to an instructor and you are going to

be safe.

b. After you complete the First Jump Course, you will be

moved to the next level of the training course. But before

they allow you to do a static line jump and a accelerated

free fall, you will have to show that you meet the

requirements of proficiency.

2. Static Line jump

a. With static line, there’s a cord that is attached to

both the plane and your parachute, so that when you step out

of the plane the cord deploys your chute. This saves you

from having to worry about remembering to pull your cord.

b. After your first static line jump, you will need to show

the instructor that you know where the ripcord is, This is

just a fake ripcord, but it tells the instructor that you

know what you are doing. After three of these types of

jumps, you will be able to do an accelerated freefall jump.

3. Accelerated FreeFall.

This lets you experience the total thrill of skydiving, but

it can be expensive because you have two instructors up

there with you. Although you aren’t attached to them, they

are there in case you have a problem. When you have done

this a few times, you will go down to one instructor. If

you are wanting to get your license, this will help a lot.

It’s natural to be nervous for your first time skydiving,

so here are some tips to help you keep from being too

nervous. When you remember these tips, you will find that

your skydiving experience is rewarding and enjoyable.

1. Remember your lessons – Think about your lessons and

what you learned, because most of our fears come from the

unknown. The lessons are to help you know what you need to

know for all types of situations.

2. Enjoy yourself – Don’t let your fears keep you from

having fun. That’s one of the biggest mistakes that people

make when they are afraid and they forget to have fun.

Think about things that make you happy and help you relax.

3. Get your mind ready – It’s important that you think

about what what helps you relax. Do what you can to help

get over your fear, because otherwise you won’t do it and

you will miss out on a great service.

4. Look into pressure points – Do some research, because

there are places in the palm that you can press that will

help alleviate stress. When you have less stress in your

body, you will find that your skydiving experience is must

better.

It’s normal to be afraid, but don’t let your fear keep you

from going skydiving. Think about things that help you

relax and you will find that you are better prepared for

your skydive than you might think. It’s always scary the

first time you do it.

Skydiving myths

There are quite a few myths that are associated with

skydiving, so we’ll take a look at a few of them and see

what the truth is about them. This way you don’t have to

worry about what is true and what is really a myth.

1. You can’t breathe while skydiving

This is one of the biggest myths. But the truth is that if

people didn’t breathe while you were skydiving, they

wouldnít be able to open their parachute, since they would

lose consciousness.

2. You can talk while skydiving

This myth has been made popular because of all those

movies. But it’s nearly impossible to hear anything because

of the rushing of the wind. But that’s why there are hand

signals, because people can’t hear anything.

3. If you don’t have a parachute, holding on to someone who

does will help you.

Although this has happened sometimes, it’s nearly

impossible. Don’t think that it will save you because it

usually doesn’t happen.

4. You free fall for as long as five minutes

The truth is that you would have to go up to at least

60,000 feet in order to fall for that long before opening

your chute. For the typical jump, you only free fall for

about 40 seconds before you open it.

5. The chute isn’t going to open

This is one of the biggest fears that people have, but the

truth is that the parachutes today are fitted so that they

are practically failsafe. Most of the injuries and deaths

that are associated with skydiving are because of mistaking

judgment and not being prepared.

Skydiving equipment

When you are skydiving, there are five pieces of equipment

that you are going to need. These will help ensure that you

stay safe and comfortable when you are skydiving. Weíll

take a look at these pieces of equipment.

1. Parachute – Of course, this is the one that everyone

thinks about. This, of course, is the most important piece

of equipment because it is the thing that slows your

descent after you pulll the parachute line.

2. Jumpsuit – Most people think that they can go skydiving

in just about anything, but thatís not true. The jumpsuit

is not just something that is a fashion statement, but it

willl help you to stay comfortable and protect you from the

winds and other things that you can encounter in the air.

It can also help you if you have a bad landing, and protect

your skin from cuts and scratches.

3. AAD – This, like your parachute, can really save you

life in case of an emergency. Itís called an automatic

activation device, and it will automatically open your

chute if you are unable to. It does this by measuring the

speed of descent.

4. Altimeter – You will need to open your chute at certain

altitude and this will help you determine when is the right

time to open the chute.

5. Protective gear – Just like with any type of extreme

sport, it’s always a good idea to have gear that will

protect you such as a helmet and padding for your knees and

elbows. It’s also not a bad idea to have a spine protector,

which is quite useful if you fall on your back when you

land.
